1960  Armstrong Siddeley Motors Ltd.  Star Sapphire

Location In Museum: Introduction

This model of car, the Star Sapphire, was the last to be made by the famous car makers Armstrong Siddeley in their factory in the Parkside area of Coventry. This up-market vehicle has a 3990cc six-cylinder engine and can reach speeds of up to 100mph, but can only do 14 miles to the gallon. It is a very posh car and was described by the Motor Magazine as having –

‘a fine air of luxury conveyed by the interior furnishing, the generous glazed areas… combined with the polished walnut furnishings, nicely fitting pile carpets and well applied leather upholstery.’

Between 1958 and 1960, 980 of these cars were built at Coventry.
