Humber Road and Ryton
Chrysler were motorcar manufacturers which began in the USA before opening up a branch in the UK in 1960s.
The Chrysler Corporation of America was founded in 1923. In 1964 they extended their business to Europe by acquiring an interest in the Rootes Group of Great Britain and later taking full control at Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry.
Notable cars developed under the Chrysler ownership included the popular Hillman 'Avenger', the 'Alpine', the rear-engined 'Imp' - built to rival the Mini, and the successful Hillman 'Hunter'.
After difficulties, in 1978 Peugeot-Citroen bought out the Chrysler interest in the Rootes Group and renamed the company Talbot - reviving yet another famous name in the motor trade.
